In Social Studies, we are starting "Economy" and what this means?  Students are learning new vocabulary and interesting songs.  Have them share with you when they arrive home!

 LANGUAGE ARTS/READING:  These are some elements that will be included in our reading/writing:

  • Engaging beginning
  • Recount events in believable statements
  • Sequence events
  • Effective pacing
  • Develop character providing motivation and how the problem is solved
  • Develop plot including emotions, descriptive details, and dialogue
  • Reasonable conclusion

    Organizational Structure:

  • Writing process
  • Chronological writing structure -events in certain order
  • Story elements
  • Sequenced events
  • Closure

    We are reading different types of narratives including fantasy/personal narratives and different types of poetry.  We are in the process of publishing different styles of poetry: Cinquain, Haiku, Limericks, shape poems, acrostics, couplets and free verse. We use our dictionary and thesaurus to help find those rich nouns, verbs and adjectives. Metaphors and similes + alliteration = Figurative Language.


  • HOMEWORK FOR WEEK OF May 11th- READ, READ, READ for understanding and pleasure!  Don't forget to get those agendas signed by parents.
